According to operational plans of Ba Be honey value chain development project, on 20-21 March 2018, project manager, Mr. Hieu, Nguyen Van, together with training specialist, Dr. Hoan Phung Duc and leaders of beekeeping clubs in Ba Be AHP organized a visit to project piloted-beekeepers for inspecting ongoing project implementations in the area.

As briefly reported by respective club leaders, households, after receiving beehives from the project, were positively buried themselves in tending and developing their bees. These have often been communicating and supporting other apiarists in solving bee caretaking issues. To date, there are about 200 bee colonies raised in Ba Be AHP area of which are growing well and initially producing honey for the markets.

At the same time, the inspection group visited typical beekeeping households, helped check and assist apiarists handling problems that they have encountered so that measures to prevent risks and strategies for sustainable development of beekeeping could be timely taken into account. In overall, beekeeping households have been aware of applying trained beekeeping techniques to realistic practices, complying regulations on bee disease prevention and treatment, honey quality commitment toward markets’ requirements and food safety and hygiene criteria. Thus, this would be the basis to develop Ba Be forest honey brand to the market in near future.

Nevertheless, there still have several unsolved issues related to the development of Ba Be honey value chain need to be soon handled as necessarily providing apiarists honey extractors and containers for honey sustainable extraction and preservation; establish policies to encourage beekeeping households to enlarge their bee farms once market demands increasing, especially in upcoming tourism season; promote Ba Be honey brand to regional potential markets, contributing to income growth, and living standard improvement for local people here, in the area.
